The COME OUT Festival is Australia's premier festival of contemporary art, performance and creativity for children and young people and the largest event of its kind in the world. Established in 1974 as a key program of the Adelaide Festival of Arts, the event was so successful that it became a stand-alone event on the South Australian arts calendar and has run biennially since 1975. In excess of 2 million South Australian children have participated in a COME OUT Festival activity since the events inception.
The vision
: to build a prosperous South Australia by inspiring children to develop lifelong confidence in sharing and investing in their unique creativity.
The mission: to deliver an innovative, internationally celebrated multi-arts festival that intrigues, excites and inspires South Australian children through a program of creative 'doing, viewing and thinking'.
The theme for COME OUT Festival 2011 BELONGING: investigating and celebrating the people, places and rituals that give us a sense of belonging.
The audience The COME OUT Festival 2011 will resonate across South Australia reaching approximately 150,000 children, families and educators through integrated public and education programs.
